Where does the name come from?

Hello! My name is Kirk Dotson, and this is my personal ministry page for The Watchman’s Cry. I got the name from Ezekiel chapter 33, when the prophet tells of how if the watchman of the city does not warn the people and they perish, their blood is on the watchman’s hand. This passage brings to light how Christians must call out to sinners to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ: otherwise, their blood will be on our hands for not warning them of the danger their souls are in. God has graciously called us as believers out of darkness into His marvelous light, and I see the urgent need to proclaim the gospel to our lost and dying world. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16), which is why I seek to share it in the public square whenever given the opportunity. Til He returns or calls me home, I will chase the upward call of God in Christ Jesus by taking His name to my city, community, and country, with the faithful evangelists I am humbled to serve under and with.

Where It Started

When our family joined our home church, I was privileged to meet Stirling Long, an experienced evangelist who shared with me his passion for the gospel, and elder in the church. He invited me to join him at one of the outreaches that he evangelized at. I previously held a skeptical view of street preaching, envisioning in my mind the "turn or burn" fiery preaching clips plastered on YouTube decrying preaching the gospel on the streets as "turning people away" and the wails of "no one even listens." When Stirling and I began to preach and evangelize, I was astonished at the response. People either were driven mad, and hurled insults and curses, or came up with sincere questions about why we were there, which led to wonderful conversations about who Jesus Christ is. I was dead wrong about what evangelism looked like, and as I watched Ray Comfort/Paul Washer, I have seen there is a way to evangelize, and that is to preach Christ crucified. As I have continued to go out with Stirling the past couple of years, I have witnessed how God uses the proclamation of His word to bring people to Himself. Moreover, God is pleased to use "the foolishness of what we preach to save those who believe" (1 Corinthians 1:21). To the natural man dead in sin, the gospel is foolishness, but that's exactly what God uses to open eyes and change hearts. The need is everywhere, and the opportunity to preach to large crowds is always present. What is needed is more people to step out and be bold to share the gospel, because the harvest is plentiful. By God's grace, the workers will not be few.

"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear with someone preaching?" (Romans 10:13-14)
